This cozy Japanese izakaya serves up skewers and small bites, but the real highlight is its sake selection. You can order by the glass and sample a wide range, even the legendary Juyondai (around HK$300 per cup). Most seats are at the counter with just a few tables, and the atmosphere is relaxed - perfect for drinks with friends. As for the food, the yakitori is pretty average, nothing that really stands out. The chicken oyster skewer was the best of the bunch, and the chicken soup udon was also quite good. Overall, it’s a nice spot for sake lovers, but not a place you’d go just for the skewers or food.

I had a fantastic experience at this izakaya. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for relaxing after a long day. Every dish we ordered was delicious and full of flavor. They also have an impressive selection of sake, with options for both beginners and sake lovers. Highly recommended!

A quiet and stylish sake bar in the heart of CWB, safe and comfortable for women to visit alone~ Menu: Came expecting good sake (they have 3 fridges full) but the food is also a delightful surprise! The karaage is freshly fried and very nice Location: a quick 5mins walk from Hysan Atmosphere: a good group of usuals with a friendly bar manager happy to explain and introduce the ~40 sakes they have stocked. Very old school 90s music taste

Just had the most amazing night at Izakaya & Sake Bar CHU CHU, and I’m already planning my next visit! 😭 First of all – every single piece of tableware has cute cat prints on it. I honestly didn’t want to put my sake cup down! 🥹🐾 Now let’s talk about the real highlight: 🔥 $14 HKD for 60ml of Juyondai – YES, you read that right. Fourteen! This is basically charity work from the owner 😂 It’s limited daily, so get there early or miss out!

Excellent place for various sake selection with a warm japanese vibe, food were a mix of hits and misses for me. 4.5/5 One of the staff spoke enough english to help me with the orders. The food came fairly timely and the staff were always around if I needed something. 4.5/5 The pickled okra is refreshing, a good palate cleanser between dishes. Okra is firm and not overly sticky, cooked perfectly. 4.6/5 Chicken skin is crispy, despite eating it over 20mins, it remained crispy. 3.5/5 Pork belly was a thick slice and smelled well grilled. But the meat was tough and dry. 4.5/5 Minced chicken is one of my favorite must have and this was tender enough with soft bone bits inside and the egg sauce ratio just amplify the yummyness of this. 4/5 Chicken thigh was tender but flavours were a bit lacking. 3.5/5 Grilled rice ball with mentaiko - 1) its different from the picture, the mentaiko was already mixed into the rice. 2) I would have liked crispy on the outside with fluffy yet firm rice on the inside, this was probably overcooked - hard and dry. I dont get the high rating this place received.
