Most offer both dine-in and takeaway, and Octopus, credit cards, FPS and PayMe are widely accepted, though smaller places may take cash only. Dim sum restaurants usually charge a per-person tea fee, and dishes are priced by size; weekend mornings from about 10:00 to lunchtime are the busiest, and many places give out queue tickets. Book wedding and birthday banquets months ahead.

Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.

There are meals that fill the stomach, and then there are meals that linger in the heart. Dining at 中环饭店 Pedder Chinese in Hong Kong’s Central was one of those rare evenings where food became poetry. Five Generations Fried Rice with Seaweed & Tofu Soup, carried whispers of ancestry. Each grain shimmered like a golden bead, kissed by the wok’s fire, while the accompanying seaweed and tofu soup was a gentle embrace — light, cleansing, and tender, like a lullaby after a long day. Pan-Fried Pork Ribs with Shallots - the pan-fried pork ribs were a love song to indulgence. Their caramelized edges crackled softly, while the shallots added a sweet, fragrant note — a duet of richness and grace. Soft-Centred Preserved Eggs with Young Ginger - the preserved eggs felt like a secret revealed. Their molten center was velvety, mysterious, and profound, while the young ginger danced brightly across the palate, reminding me of spring’s first breeze. Pan-Fried Lotus Root Cakes with Savoury Minced Pork - the lotus root cakes were a story of contrasts — crisp on the outside, tender within. The savoury minced pork added warmth, like a hearth fire glowing behind a carved screen. The signature crisp

I enjoyed the food here in general. The shrimp dishes were well executed and the pork ribs were delicious. The restaurant and its toilet were clean. Service was also attentive and polite. Tourists would be glad to know that most of the staff speak good English, as with many other places in Hong Kong. I docked a star as I was seated beside a group of rowdy PRC tourists who were very brash, and it affected my dining experience. They blasted their loud ringtone and video call for everyone to hear multiple times. The staff did not stop them. I understand that the staff cannot control their patrons. But I think a nudge to them would have been appreciated.

Pedder Chinese is a newly opened basement restaurant in Central, conveniently located near the MTR Station. Online reservation is straightforward. The main dining room is bright and tidy. Staff is friendly, patient and accommodating. Food is not cheap, and the quality is rather inconsistent. While the Chilled Cherry Tomatoes with Bird’s Nest (HK$98) are refreshing and the Golden Crispy Fish Skin (HK$88) is crunchy, the’18-Cut’ Drunken Pigeon with Preserved Plum (HK$138) is rough and the Crispy Skin Chicken in Two Ways (HK$ 428) is disastrously oily. Most of the dishes are only visually delicious, with innovative ideas appear to be poorly executed. For example, the deep-fried fish bone of the Stir-Fried Sole with Leek (Spicy & Non-Spicy) (HK$888) is not cooked well enough hence cannot be swallowed as designed (this is very dangerous!); the chef should have picked a different type of fish instead of wasting the silky-smooth sole. Highlight of the dinner is the delicate Wooden-Bucket Silky Tofu Pudding (HK$98/four persons)!

I was walking through Central near Pedder Street when I stumbled upon a new Chinese restaurant called 'Pedder Chinese.' It looked really inviting from the outside, so I decided to step in and give it a try. I'm glad I did—the food was delicious overall, with some really standout dishes. Beyond the meal itself, the place has a fantastic, lively atmosphere. The interior is beautifully decorated, and the service was attentive and friendly from start to finish. It was a really great find.
