About Social Place
Social Place is a Cantonese and dim sum restaurant in Central, Central and Western, at 2/F The L. Place, 139 Queen's Road Central, Central. Locals and visitors alike tend to check the same things before going, so this page brings together the practical details: where it is, how to get in touch, when it is open and how customers rate it. This is an upstairs shop: the way in is usually through the building lobby rather than from the street, so check the building name, floor and unit before you go and allow a few minutes for the lift.
Many Hong Kong restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill, and tipping beyond that is optional. Popular places fill up at lunchtime and on weekend evenings, so book by phone, WhatsApp or a platform such as OpenRice; some set a time limit or a minimum spend. Most offer both dine-in and takeaway, and Octopus, credit cards, FPS and PayMe are widely accepted, though smaller places may take cash only.
Google lists the opening hours as daily, 11:30–15:00 and 17:30–22:00. Lunch and dinner are served in separate sessions with a break in between. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. You can call 3568 9666; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there. Its website is socialplace.hk, which may show prices, details of what it offers or online booking.

Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.

Best place for pigeon in Hong Kong, in fact, for this price I wouldn’t bother going across the border for it! $69 per pigeon as priced on the menu, but it’s $49 when dining in. Great texture, tender & well marinated, juicy.

Their roasted pigeons are very good here. Try their sweet sour pork (ku lu yuk) which is unique in that the hot tomato sauce pork is served on a heap of ice. The atmosphere is more electric in Hong Kong than the one in Singapore.

We went to Social Place on winter solstice. As it’s a really good restaurant it was packed. I managed to get a good seat as I booked 3 months in advance. You can book online or by phone. They have an app you can download and subscribe as member as well but is only in Chinese. I chose Social Place as it’s the third time I have been here. Every time it was a great experience. Social Place has an extensive list of Chinese food options to choose from. Most restaurants only have dim sum options for lunch but at Social Place you can also have dim sum for dinner as well. We ordered four hairy crabs with Chinese wine, one signature roasted pigeon, two barbecued beef, one eggs (ain’t) that simple (Sichuan chili stir fry chicken), one flamin-pie, one fried rice with crab, shrimp and ginger, one sweet & sour pork with fresh pineapple, one giant grouper with pickled cabbage & chili, one green beans with chili minced pork, one shrimp dumpling with black truffle (3 pieces) and tea. Tea costs HKD 10 per person. Food here tasted amazing and came out on time. Service was great too. Nice atmosphere. You order online after you scan the QR code. They calculate you the price when you order. But at t

Atmosphere was great! I made a reservation beforehand but you may not need it if you’re visiting on a weekday night. Quite spacious seating and service is good. 😋: food was fresh and presented well, recommend their sweet and sour pork and pigeon. The clay pot rice portion is quite small but the flavour was delicious. Friends from Canada were very happy with the overall experience😚

Money can buy happiness and this meal is happiness. Every dish i ordered was well executed, particularly liked the cold drunken clams, coconut chicken soup and the scallion noodles, which is kinda crazy because it is rare for me to love more than 50% of the dishes anywhere. However it comes with a heavy price tag of 500hkd for 2, not an amount Im ready to fork out easily (we were still hungry). It is still a meal i think about often, and will definitely come back when im feeling rich.
